DISCERNMENT, noun The act of discerning; also, the power or faculty of the mind, by which it distinguishes one thing from another, as truth from falsehood, virtue from vice; acuteness of judgment; power of perceiving differences of things or ideas, and their relations and tendencies. The errors of youth often proceed from the want of discernment. (Webster 1828 dictionary)
Furthermore discerning of spirits is one of the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit mentioned in 1 Cor 12:10 this is an ability to distinguish through the Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of Truth, the difference between that what is from God the Lord and that which is from the enemy, the Devil, who is the master deceiver. Because ultmately there are only two sources, God or the Devil. Furthermore through the gift of discernment one can even identify what evil spirit or principality is operating.
The first and foremost Truth that must be addressed in our section "truth seekers" is salvation, for multiplied millions of people have been deceived by religious ordinances into a false belief system, it is the will of God for none to perish (2 Pet 3:9) but the majority has a form of godliness but denies the power thereof (2 Tim 3:5) in the famous parable of the wise and foolish virgins both thought to follow the Lord but the foolish virgins could not enter heaven (Mat 25) so let's look closely at the Word of God to bring total clarity about whether one is saved (has obtained salvation) or not:
The reason for this particular page is to bring about an awakening in those that say they are Christian or religious, because the Saviour Himself the Lord Jesus Christ who paid the ultimate price in His blood because He wants none to perish said: "you must be born again to enter the Kingdom of God" (John chapter 3), to be born again is having had a transformation so evident that it is compared to: having been born the first time, which was an undeniable event, as your mother would surely agree!
However the Lord is speaking about another birth as evident and undeniable as the first, to be born again: to experience the John chapter 3 required spiritual re-birth is an evident transforming power of the Holy Spirit in somebody's life.
Jesus said: unless you are born again you cannot see or enter the Kingdom of God, which is salvation, the free gift of eternal life, by grace not by works, but the requirement of: 'ye must be born again' is in actual fact the true result of 'genuine repentance' i.E. with an understanding that repentance is not merely asking forgiveness but a repentance of the heart (mind) to completely turn from the old way of life to the new way of life in Christ by following Christ Jesus.
So a person who has been born again, has had a metamorphose, a total change from the first birth person to the second birth person, i.E. the born again person is drastically different from the person he/she was before becoming born again, this is important to understand because this is exactly what the Lord is requiring for salvation, eternal life in heaven.
The Lord Jesus Christ taught the Gospel of the Kingdom of God, understand that it is a simple Gospel, an easy to understand Gospel: but the Lord warned through Apostle Paul, knowing what was going to happen in the future: "But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ."
So the key is as the Saviour the Lord Jesus Christ said in Matthew chapter 4 verse 17 'repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand' to repent means to turn away from sin AND self in order to turn TO the Lord to FOLLOW the Lord according to His Word!
That is why genuine repentance brings about a total change of mindset, thinking and living - from a selfish sinful life, or following desires of self and living in sin TO: living for the Lord following the Lord.
The Bible word "disciple" means follower of Jesus Christ and the Lord made the requirements and qualifications of following Him (this being a Christian to the true sense of The Word) simple and crystal clear: "And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple" Luke 14:27 "Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it:and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it" Math 16:24-25
Discernment in this topic is mentioned, so that any reader who has fallen for a deception of the enemy, who did not know this Bible Truth, can now be awakened out of this deception.
Many born again Christians full of the Holy Ghost have confessed that before their 'conversion - through genuine remorseful repentance with understanding' they always believed! But believing without the change is not receiving the free gift of salvation!
Because the connotation of believing is not often lining up with the Bible explanation of believing, simply put: IF you really believe you would do what the Lord says. "This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me" (Mat 15:8)
So the secular connotation of believing what the Lord has done on the cross, is not the same as believing it fully in your heart to the extend that you will act upon it and live accordingly to it.
Romans 10: 9-10 "because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved"
It is our job as the church of Jesus Christ, to wake up all those that are religiously deceived, that have a belief albeit intellectual of the Lord, but that are not born again. If that is you, read the page 'repent, how do i get saved, born again'.
Having knowledge is having power (Prov 8:14, 24:5, 2 Pet 1:3, Hos 4:6)
Having now established this fundamental truth, we can now go another step further in our persuit for the truth. We as Christians know that the Word of God is the Truth of God and therefore, if we always use the Bible as the plumb line to compare things against, then falsehoods and wrongs are quickly exposed. Jesus said I am the Truth, the Way and the Life (John 14:6) The Word of God declares that the Word became flesh (John 1:14) Jesus Christ the Lord is the Word of God and the Word of God is Truth.
Although the arch-deceiver, the enemy of God, Satan has been trying hard for millenia to pull the wool over the people's eyes, those in the world and those in the church, even tried to manipulate the actual Word of God by progressively bringing out 'new' versions of the Bible, subtily changing the truths into falsehoods. (we have a special page dedicated to this)
So we are blessed to have the ultimate Truth, the only Truth the Lord in our heart, the Holy Spirit the Spirit of Truth abiding in us and the Word of God in our hands. And this is our foundation and plumb line to awaken you from the deception all around us, as we will now begin the journey of seeking the truth in all aspects of our lives and the world we live in.
to be continued, so stay tuned...
